Thank you Colin.
Yes, I too find it strange as to why Benny was so upset by this particular cover version.
His objections were discussed in detail on the excellent 2009 Radio 2 documentary, 'Even Better Than The Real Thing'.

Very strange that Benny Hill was unaware of copyright regarding his compositions as his Harvest of Love was covered in 1963 and he did not refuse his royalties then. This is a great site long may it continue Colin R.

Hiya,
I don't know if anyone is going to read this, but I came across the Volume 22 album as I was looking for the albums that I sang on myself in 1972. I sang this version of I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing. I was a very young twenty two year old at the time.
After singing a few songs on the Top of the Pops Albums, I went on to sing the lead vocal on Decca Records Production of Jesus Christ Superstar and then sang the lead vocal on Polydor's Production of Evita.
I am 58 now, and fondly look back on my days in London, gigging with my various bands and singing in recording studios all over London.... very very happy and exciting days they were too...

Jenny Mason (my recording name)

I love your reviews. I bought all the albums when they came out and am fascinated by your perspective. Keep up the good work.

Hi. I recently played my own copy of this LP and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have most of the series now, only requiring Volumes 78, 88 and 91. My first was Volume 7, in 1969 when I was 7 years old. My favourite covers on 27 are Elmo James and Hallelujah Freedom.
